The former President of the Ghana Muslim Academy (GMA), Hajj Seth Owusu Yeboah has, implored mosques around the country to set up health support fund in their mosques “masjids” and communities for their families.
He said this will help address the issues associated with national health insurance schemes in the near future. Explaining that the fund put together by the mosques would help them in times of difficulty.
He pleaded with the Muslims to help keep their Kettles and the areas surrounding the mosques clean enough to prevent diseases like typhoid fever and other related infections.
“Our Religion does not permit uncleanliness.” He said.
When speaking on education, He advised the Ghana Muslim Students Association (GMSA) in medical schools and Second cycle institutions to concentrate on motivating Muslim students especially girls to consider medicine as a career choice.
Stressing the need to have more female doctors who would attend to women who are in pain. He asked the leaders of Muslim communities to identify and motivate brilliant young Muslim students to help Muslims in Ghana achieve that feat.
He said, ‘everything is wrong with a male doctor attending to a Muslim woman’, and that it should be a priority to have young Muslim women take over from the male doctors in a short time to come, “males should take care of males, and the same should apply to the women”.
He advised the people who patronize the roadside manicure and pedicure to desist from this practice, adding that “what is wrong with you doing it yourself”.
He cautioned them of the numerous diseases out there which they can catch because most of these people do not sterilize their items after use.
Hajj Yeboah, when speaking on food bemoaned what is becoming a practice among most Zongo communities in the country “what actually scares me a lot is the level of food waste we generate at our wedding ceremonies”
He explained that most people are quick to quote the tradition of the prophet ‘Sunnah’ that persons should empty their plates.
Adding that what they fail to say either consciously or unconsciously is that he also advised that when Muslims eat, they must divide their stomach into three to make room for food, water and breather.
He also assured them not to be scared of not being satisfied when he said “the food meant for two can be sufficient for three and the food meant for three can suffice four”.
Adding “Over eating has its’ own health problems and must be avoided”.
