Jasaw Latifa is USAG prez elect

Jasaw Latifa, a fifth year medical student at the University for Development studies, Tamale campus has been elected as the President of the  University Students Association of Ghana (USAG) at the just ended congress in Navrongo for the 2013/2014 academic year.
Miss Jasaw was overwhelmely endorsed by delegates from all institution with she obtaining 115 votes out of the total vote of 255 to beat her three contenders, Jeffery Kyei Baffour (15),  Ebenezer Agorhom (78) and Imoro Lukman (35) votes respectively .
Miss Jasaw among other things promised to give the union a facelift and create the Internally Generated funds (IGF) so that the union will not have to rely on its dues and the capitation it receives yearly during congresses.
Miss Jasaw promised to bring on board an outreach programme to revive in students a high sense of patriotism, volunteerism and a sense of nationalism.
Miss Jasaw prior to her election was a onetime treasurer of the Medical Student Association of UDS in the 2011/2012 academic year, a coordinator for the touch a heart foundation in 2011 and a onetime representative of GA in the 2009 /10 year among many others.
Among other portfolios, Mr. Saeed Ahmed , a student of Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration(GIMPA) lost by two votes to his contender Mr. Abdul Karim of the Methodist University College  to the general secretary portfolio
Mr. Alhassan Abdulai, Mr. Daniel Blaze Annang and Miss Hubeida  Abdulai stood unopposed for the position of  financial controller , Information &International Relations Secretary and  the position of the women’s commissioner respectively.
Mr. Noah F. Kpogli also beat his contender Baba Adam to win the coordinating secretary portfolio .
Miss Portia Owusuaa Amoateng of the University of Energy and Natural Resources also won by 11 votes while  her contender Miss Veronica Ansah Nyarko also of the University for Development Studies to the treasurer portfolio.
The delegates congress which began on 29th July to the 2nd August  brought together about 20 universities around the country.
Some of which were  the University of Ghana, Methodist University, Central University College, University of Cape Coast, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
The election was generally described as peaceful.
